Models

We welcome new and established models to work with us for Portfolio Builder Events.
What types of models are needed? – Our events range from portraits and fashion, to fitness, glamour, and boudoir. If you’re a model you can register for one or more genre and we’ll only contact you about availability for the types of work you want.
Do models get images from the shoot – Yes. We encourage all participants to share their best images and it’s a condition of attendance that images are available for all of the non-photographer participants portfolio use.
Do models get paid? – Models always receive some monetary compensation for their work, the amount of compensation depends on the type and length of the shoot. That said the primary compensation is the images from the event.
How do we know we’ll get good images? – Obviously our portfolio builder events are open to participants of all skill levels, and images are a subjective thing, so there are no iron clad guarantees. However, because there’s typically a theme, a make-up artist, some styling, a fully equipped studio, and we’re there to provide guidance there’s a good chance that participants will not just get good images, we want everyone to get GREAT IMAGES!
Make-Up Artists

We love our hair and make-up artists, come show the world what you can do!
How much experience is needed? – We work with make-up artists of all levels, so even if you haven’t built much of a portfolio yet that OK. We do expect to see some examples of work however, and most importantly that all MUA’s practice high standards of hygiene and protection for the model’s skin and hair.
Do make-up artists get images from the shoot – Yes. We encourage all participants to share their best images and it’s a condition of attendance that images are available for all of the non-photographer participants portfolio use.
Do make-up artists get paid? – Make-up artists receive a fixed $100 fee (per model) for the shoot. Most shoots only involve one model. We recognise of course this is not a standard fee, however these events are primarily networking and portfolio building events.
How do we know we’ll get good images? – Obviously our portfolio builder events are open to participants of all skill levels, and images are a subjective thing, so there are no iron clad guarantees. That said we work hard to build a compelling theme and to help all participants collaborate to a simple end – we want everyone to get GREAT IMAGES!
Others

Are you a stylist? A milliner ? Creator of gigantic feature piece jewelry?
If you think you can bring something creative to a shoot, or you’d like some help building a shoot, one of our portfolio builder events could be great for you.
What’s the benefit? – We’ve built shoots just around an amazing skirt, or an astounding headpiece. As well as all of the normal networking benefits this can be a great way to get a broad selection of images on a particular theme or style.
Because every photographer will put their own spin on things you can often get a much broader range than you’d get from working with just one.
And, if that wasn’t enough, we’re bringing together the team, the equipment, the model, and lending our expertise, all costing you nothing while you introduce yourself to new potential paying clients.
FAQ
We aim to run events 2-3 times a month, usually in an evening to accommodate people that may have other obligations.
Either in our Balmain studio or at some of the other fabulous locations we’ve stakes out around the Inner-west and CBD
Photographer’s pay $149 each.
Typically shooting around 3 hours. If an evening we aim for shooting from say 7-10pm. Prep of course may add some time.
Yes. A condition of participation is that a selection of finished images is made available to the contributors (e.g. models, make-up artists, etc.) for use in portfolios and promotion. Likewise models must release the use of their likeness for this purpose
Not quite. Although one of our resident photographer’s is on hand to coordinate things, to grab a few shots, and to help set things up, the aim is that participants guide the setup and shoot.
This depends on the complexity of the setup. Most likely 2-3. Sometimes just one variation on a theme if the setup is particularly complex.
